David never liked school. So much so that he always joked with his mother he wouldn’t graduate.
That was until Paul Williams, the music director at Olympic High School, put a pair of drum sticks in his hand during his Beginner Guitar Class. Williams suspected David might take to the drums. Boy, was he right.
Today, music plays a central role in David’s life. In addition to performing in a band with fellow Olympic students, he spent his junior and senior years playing drums in OHS’ wind ensemble. David graduated early and works full-time, but he still makes time to practice every day – sometimes even during breaks at work with a portable drum pad.
Thankfully, Mr. Williams saw his potential as a drummer. If David has his way, that moment in guitar class will be the origin story of a great musician.
