Two years ago, on Valentine’s Day, Dasyn woke up at his friend's house and all he wanted to do was go home. Dasyn was living there for a short period, and this realization ultimately signified the end of a bad path he was travelling down in his early high school years.
During his freshman year, a friend dared Dasyn to rob a convenience store. He did, and paid the consequences, having been arrested and charged with third-degree robbery. At first, Dasyn enjoyed the attention brought from his misdeed. But as his relationship with his parents began to fracture and the reality of wearing an ankle monitor to school began to set in, Dasyn slowly realized he needed to distance himself from the bad influences in his life.
Midway through his second semester at Olympic High School – he transferred into Olympic at the beginning of his sophomore year – he turned it around, both academically and behaviorally. Trips to the administrators offices dwindled and Dasyn’s GPA never dipped below a 2.5 after recording a 0.5 GPA and a 1.16 GPA his second semester of freshman year and his first semester of sophomore year, specifically. He even took and passed three Advanced Placement (AP) classes.
He credits the staff at Olympic for helping him get the help he needed to graduate, which until his epiphany on Valentine’s Day two years ago seemed like a pipedream.
