Our Commitment to Equity
We are committed to achieving educational equity, which means that every child has what they need to develop their full social and academic potential and that there is no predictability of success or failure that correlates with any social or cultural factor.
We believe that every student has the potential to achieve, and it is the responsibility of our school district to provide each student the opportunity and support to meet their highest potential (0030 Equity Policy).
We are committed to developing systems that ensure access and eliminate barriers so all students have opportunities for success. We recognize that this is a constant work in progress, and we are committed to growing and improving.

One of the ways we recognize diversity (0030 Equity Policy) is by celebrating history and heritage months that reflect the diversity of students and staff. Our celebrations are geared toward an understanding and appreciation of differences.
The celebration months we highlight as a district and in schools include:- Black History Month (February)
- Women’s History Month (March)
- Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (May)
- Pride Month (June)
- Hispanic/Latin(o/a/x) Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15)
- Disability History and Awareness Month (October)
- Native American Heritage Month (November)
These months are also aligned with the US Courts Annual Observances and Washington State RCW 28A.230.158.

We provide professional development (0030 Equity Policy) around cultural competency, diversity, and equity to strengthen staff’s awareness, knowledge and skills in ensuring access and eliminating barriers so students have opportunities for success.
In 2021, the Washington State Legislature passed SHB 1426 that requires teachers and administrators who are renewing their certification to complete professional learning focused on equity-based school practices.
All equity-based trainings are aligned with Washington State’s Cultural Competency, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (CCDEI) Standards for Educators. -
District Equity Team
The district equity team’s purpose is to use an equity lens to examine policies, programs, and practices to improve outcomes for students, staff, and families.
School & Department Equity Teams
Schools and departments have equity teams that aim to institutionalize change through an area of focus. These equity teams determine their area of focus based on school/department data and student needs.
