Planning Process

We launched our strategic planning process at the start of the 2022-23 school year. The process was intended to provide a clear picture of five things: What our district is about, where we're headed, what we want to achieve, how we'll get there, and how we'll measure our progress. 

  • Our strategic planning development and adoption timeline had three phases. We started by gathering input from students, staff, families, and our community (August-December 2022). It was critical to collect as much feedback as possible because we wanted our new strategic plan to truly reflect the voices of our students, staff, families, and community. We created a comprehensive timeline to help us spread the word and ensure widespread participation. We conducted an online survey, hosted regional forums, visited schools, engaged our staff, and met with members of community groups and organizations.

    Guiding Questions
    Our listening sessions and regional forums were designed to engage with our students, staff, families, and community in a new way, with hands-on activities and discussions. Whether participants chose to attend a school listening session or regional forum, or take our online survey, they were asked these four guiding questions as the basis for their input:

    • What existing area of focus would you like to see CKSD continue to emphasize and prioritize moving forward?
    • What new area of focus would you like to see CKSD emphasize and prioritize moving forward?
    • Specifically, are there strategies (programs/initiatives) that you believe CKSD should undertake?
    • What are the core values that best represent CKSD?
  • Next, we pulled together a representative group of stakeholders, which included students, staff, parents, and community members (January-March 2023). This committee spent hours synthesizing and studying the data, as well as other survey data and reports. Based on this work, the committee made recommendations for new vision and mission statements, core values, and goals.

  • In the last phase, district administrators and staff met to establish strategies and outcomes for each goal (April-May 2023). The school board finalized and approved new vision and mission statements, values, and goals, as well as updates to our key performance indicators in spring 2023.

Strategic Goals Update Process

The 2025-26 school year marks the third year of our strategic plan. We’re seeing the impact of that work, and we’re proud of the progress we’ve made. Now it’s time to start looking ahead.

 

This fall, we engaged our students, staff, families, and community members in updating our Strategic Goals for years 4-6.

 

Over the winter and early spring, we will analyze this feedback and identify themes, review data and strategies, and propose updates. Our plan is to request board approval in June.
