Classroom Technology

Classroom Technology

Students must accept the responsibilities as outlined in the CKSD  (pdf), which students and families must sign each fall. Here are our related policies:

BYOD

Bring Your Own Device

District devices are available to all students and using a personal device is optional. Under special considerations, students in grades 9–12 may bring personal laptops for school use.

In order to comply with district policy for safety and security of students, any student who uses a personal device must be signed into a district issued account and work within only this account during the school day.

All personal devices must meet the district’s minimum and state testing requirements. Use of personal devices on the Central Kitsap School District Guest Wi-Fi network is at the user’s own risk; the district is not liable for any loss or damage to devices or data.

  • To meet state testing requirements, families must ensure that their students' personal devices include:

    • An external keyboard - must have a physical keyboard (no tablets)
    • Screen size of 10 inches or larger
    • Screen resolution of 1024 pixels by 768 pixels or higher
    • A secure browser that supports state testing, as described on the Washington Comprehensive Assessment Program website
  • Battery life: Charge your device to 100% prior to starting the school day. Classrooms are not equipped to charge devices.

Tech Support: You must provide your own tech support. CKSD tech support is not available for personal devices.

Printing: Personal devices are not allowed to connect to district printers.

Liability: CKSD is not liable for damage to or theft of any personal devices.

ClassLink

ClassLink is a secure online service that lets students and families access online school-related resources.

ClassLink lets you access many of our online resources with ONE log-in. Other apps may ask for additional credentials. There's more on that in the "What resources can I access?" section.

  • You can access ClassLink from any computer or browser. There's even an app for mobile devices.

Before you start, log in to Google with your student credentials.

From Chrome: If you're logged in to Chrome, students can use the bookmarks folder (in the toolbar, beneath the web address).

From school website: At the top right of your school website, click “Popular Links” to find ClassLink and more.

  • Access to digital resource “apps” will vary from school to school. Students can access tools, such as Google Classroom, digital curriculum, research materials and more. Please note that not all textbooks have online resources.

  • For additional help, contact your school librarian.

Google Classroom and Chromebooks

Google Classroom

Google Classroom is a web-based program that helps teachers organize class content and connect with students.

Teachers can post announcements and assignments, collect work and track student progress.

Student Access

To access Google Classroom from home, you can either use your district-issued Chromebook or any computer.

Step 1: Open the Chrome browser.

Step 2: Visit http://classroom.google.com. Students must log in to Google using their CKSD issued account.

Step 3: If it's your first time joining a class, you'll need to ask your teacher for the classroom code.

Chromebooks

Chromebooks are checked out to all students in grades 6-12 for use in school or at home.  With these devices, students can access online educational resources anywhere they can access the internet.

Chromebook Policies & Procedures

Please read the Student and Parent Handbook (Google doc) with your child.
