Work has started on the district’s newest phase of major security improvements.
Construction crews are demolishing and remaking the Silver Ridge Elementary main entrance and a portion of the office. Construction crews will be at Emerald Heights Elementary and Ridgetop Middle School begins soon.
All CK schools will undergo improvements to better control access into the schools. In addition to entrance remodeling, the district will install electronic access systems and security cameras.
The new entrances improve school staff’s ability to monitor visitors. The inside set of double doors are locked during school hours. Visitors are guided into a school’s main office. Office staff can then greet visitors and unlock a door into the school.
Secure entryways are complete at Silverdale Elementary and Barker Creek Community School.
Secure entryways are under construction in seven schools right now. Security is part of the major construction work at CK High and CK Middle, Klahowya and Olympic.
Designs are in the works for secure entryways at all other schools, with construction slated to be complete next year.
Our community’s support makes these safety improvements possible. In early 2016, voters passed a capital projects measure to fund the work.
