The Klahowya girls soccer team walks onto the new field for the first time.
This month marked the start of fall sports for schools across the state. And the beginning of a new era for Klahowya athletics.
The school’s new synthetic turf field is officially ready for practices and competition. The field will host middle school and junior varsity football games, middle and high school soccer games, and track and field meets.
The girls soccer team marked their first day of practice—and their first experience on the new turf field—by walking down together and stepping on the field as a team. Players say they are looking forward to practicing on turf without traveling to Silverdale Stadium and to playing their home games at home.
The athletic renovations at Klahowya, which also include an auxiliary gym and equipment storage, are possible thanks to the community’s support of a bond measure in February. As the 2017 season begins, the Eagles are ready to validate the community’s investment.
“Everybody is really excited,” said KSS Athletic Director Todd Winters. “We’re getting to a great spot with our facilities. With two fields and two gyms, we’re going to get so much more usage, and I really think we’re going to get more kids out.”
