We want your feedback on Human Growth and Development Curriculum
Posted on 04/13/2023

Starting in 2023, all school districts in Washington must be in compliance with state requirements for Comprehensive Sexual Health Education (CSHE) and HIV instructional programs.

In Central Kitsap, we refer to this curriculum as Human Growth and Development (HG&D). On October 12, 2022, the school board held a study session on this topic. The board presentation answers many common questions about our curriculum and state requirements.

Since January of 2023, the district CSHE team has been meeting to review the law and standards. This team includes parents, administrators, and staff. They evaluated resources that would meet the standards required by law. The complete recommendations are now available on our Comprehensive Sexual Health Education resource site. The team only recommended changes to our fifth grade lessons, the rest of the curriculum is the same. Regardless of the final curriculum recommendation, families can still choose to opt their child out.

Now we want your feedback! After reviewing the recommendations, please complete the feedback form by May 3.

Next steps:

  • May 4: The CSHE team meets to review community feedback and addresses any comments and concerns.
  • May 15: The Instructional Materials Committee will review new resources and make a recommendation to the school board.
  • May 25: Request school board approval.
  • September 2023: Materials will be available for parent preview on the district website.
