We have such an awesome and supportive community!

Esquire Hills Elementary is integrating more science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) into its curricula. For example, each month, two STEM words are taught to students, used by staff and incorporated in a weekly library Maker Space STEM activity.

So when Tom and Marilyn Hawks and , Raejean Bridges-Avalos approached the school and offered to run a robotics club, the answer was a resounding “yes!”

Tom Hawks is a retired colonel with a doctorate in cybernetics. His wife Marilyn is a former Department of Defense teacher, as is Bridges-Avalos. The three volunteers and Esquire Hills librarian Melodee Samson, provide the expertise. The district provided the Edison robots.

A group of K-2 and a grades 3-5 group meet each week. They learn to program Edison robots on wheels. And they sure have a lot of fun doing it!
