Native American Heritage Month 2024
Celebrating Native American Heritage Month
Posted on 11/01/2024

Throughout November, Central Kitsap Schools proudly honors Native American Heritage Month, celebrating the cultures, histories, and contributions of indigenous peoples—both past and present—within our schools and local community.

Our district is built on the land of the Suquamish people, “People of Clear Salt Water.” The Suquamish people are our neighbors who have a rich culture and history as one of the First Peoples of the Pacific Northwest. This month offers a special opportunity to deepen our understanding of the unique traditions, languages, and histories of the Native American tribes in our region, including the Suquamish Tribe as well as the nearby Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe.

We invite our community to join us for our annual Native American Heritage Month Celebration:

Thursday, November 21
5:30-7:00 p.m.
Barker Creek Community School

We also encourage our community to learn more by exploring the Suquamish Tribe website and the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe website. Together, let's recognize the vital role indigenous peoples play in shaping our shared history and future!

We highlight and celebrate national history and heritage months as a district and in schools throughout the year as part of our commitment to ensuring safe and welcoming learning environments. This includes Black History Month (February); Women’s History Month (March); Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Month (May); Pride Month (June); Hispanic/Latin(o/a/x) Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15); Disability History Month (October); and Native American Heritage Month (November).
