Posted on 03/11/2020

New opportunities for Central Kitsap students are taking off thanks to a new partnership with Horizon Air.

The partnership will help students explore and build skills that can land them a variety of careers in aviation, from aerospace engineering to commercial pilots. Additionally, it helps the airline address an expected worldwide pilot shortage.

Horizon leaders were welcomed at a formal signing event Wednesday at Olympic High School.

“We are beginning a journey today that will pave the way for generations to come in building an exciting, innovative and transformational workforce,” Superintendent Erin Prince said at the signing.

Horizon’s experts will help teachers and students learn about a variety of aviation careers. Future students could, for example, become pilots, mechanics, flight attendants, marketing executives, or human resources specialists. Other features of the partnership include:

  • Professional development for aviation teachers
  • Aviation experts as guest speakers for classes
  • Tours of Horizon facilities
  • Internship and mentorship opportunities for students
  • New curriculum and improvements to existing aviation-related curriculum

We are excited for our next steps. We can’t wait to see our students soar!
