We want our schools to be safe and welcoming learning environments, where all students feel they belong. Last year, we shared concerns over disruptive and disrespectful student behavior. This fall, we invited students, staff, and families to join a conversation about improving student behavior. This conversation started with our cell phone and dress code policy development process.
Initial input
The first step in the process was an online engagement about cell phones and our dress code policy. This online engagement was open through Monday, September 30. We used your input to develop draft policies on these topics. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
In-person feedback
On October 24, we welcomed students, staff, families, and community members to an in-person engagement at our Teaching & Learning Center. We shared the draft policies, and participants had the chance to provide feedback.
Online feedback
The next step in the process was to seek additional feedback on the draft policies through an online survey. We understand the drafts may seem extreme as we incorporated input from all stakeholders. The drafts were not final. We asked students, staff, families, and community members to share their feedback through a survey, which was open through November 4.
What’s next?
We will edit the draft policies based on feedback we receive through the online survey. We will share the updated draft policies during the school board retreat on November 13. The school board will review the draft policy changes on December 11 and approve any policy changes on January 29. We will implement policies for second semester (February 3).
