Setting the Course: CK Schools Strategic Planning

The path forward for Central Kitsap Schools

With your help, our strategic planning process will provide a clear picture of five things: what our district is about, where we’re headed, what we want to achieve, how we’ll get there, and how we’ll measure our progress.

We’ll develop new mission and vision statements and core values that reflect our students, families, staff, and community. We’ll also define our goals, which will be assessed annually, and finalize our key performance indicators.

Our new strategic plan will guide the future of our district for years to come—be part of it!

Three steps of the strategic planning process.

Process Outcomes

The board anticipates approving and sharing the final version of our new strategic plan in spring 2023.

The strategic plan will be succinct and focused to help guide the district’s efforts and resources while maintaining an ease of accessibility to district stakeholders. It will include:

  • Mission Statement
    Our purpose
  • Vision Statement
    Our aspirations for the future
  • Core Values
    Our shared beliefs
  • Strategic Goals
    We turn our mission, vision,
and values into reality by setting measurable goals. We will evaluate and assess progress toward our goals annually.
  • Key Performance Indicators
These measurements of student success provide insight into how the district is performing and are key indicators on our students’ progress toward graduation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a strategic plan?

A strategic plan is document that guides an organization into the future. It clarifies what the organization wants to accomplish and outlines the path to make that vision a reality. Our new strategic plan will include five components:

  • Mission StatementWe will define our purpose.
  • Vision StatementWe will describe our aspirations for the future.
  • Core ValuesWe will clarify our shared beliefs.
  • Strategic GoalsWe will set our mission, vision, and values into reality by setting measurable goals.
  • Key Performance IndicatorsThese measurements of student success will provide insight into how the district is performing and on our students’ progress toward graduation.

What are Key Performance Indicators?

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are research-based metrics that predict graduation success. By focusing on these areas, we will help every student graduate ready for college, a career, or the military. We will set targets for each area as we measure our students’ progress toward graduation.

  • Kindergarten attendance
  • 3rd grade reading
  • 6th grade attendance
  • 6th grade passing math and English
  • 6th grade suspensions
  • 9th grade attendance
  • 9th grade passing all classes
  • 9th grade suspensions
  • Graduation rate (4 year)

What is the intended outcome for the strategic planning process?

This process will provide a clear picture of five things: what our district is about, where we’re headed, what we want to achieve, how we’ll get there, and how we’ll measure our progress.

What is the timeline for developing the strategic plan?

First, we will gather input from students, staff, families, and our community (August-December 2022). Next, we will convene a representative group of stakeholders to synthesize, study, and make recommendations based on this information (January-March 2023). Finally, the school board will finalize and approve new mission and vision statements, values, and goals, as well as updates to our key performance indicators (April-June 2023).

How often will the strategic plan be reviewed?

We will assess our progress toward our goals annually. Each spring, the board will evaluate the strategic plan goals and established goals for the following school year. We will provide ongoing updates throughout the year during school board meetings and retreats to update the school board on our progress toward achieving our key performance indicators.
