Walk into the entrance of any Central Kitsap school this year, and you’ll see a promise kept.

In 2016, the district promised to make schools more secure, as well as modernize secondary schools and athletic facilities.

Over the past 1½ years, entryways at all 19 schools have undergone construction. Work at two schools will wrap up this fall, and the rest are complete. Secure entrances were part of the rebuilding and modernization projects at Olympic, Klahowya, Central Kitsap High and Central Kitsap Middle.

Schools are also getting new locks and outdoor security cameras. And schools are adopting a new process to screen visitors. The combined work gives schools better control of who can come in.

The new entrances, along with the opening of CK High are the last of the major construction projects promised  in 2016. The district will continue repair projects at each school.

Thank you, Central Kitsap, for supporting our work to make our schools safer, better learning environments!
