Possible Student Walkouts
How We Will Handle Walkouts
Posted on 03/07/2018

Students in our district—like others across the nation—feel deep sympathy for and solidarity with the victims of school tragedies. Many of these students are seeking ways to show their support and voice their own concerns. As we shared with you last month, some are calling for walkouts on March 14 and April 20.

Our mission is to educate. Our responsibility is to keep students safe. This includes ensuring that they remain under our supervision during school hours. If students choose to participate in a walkout, our schools will follow their normal schedules. We will respond to a walkout according to these guidelines:

  • We expect all students to remain on campus. We will provide staff to supervise students who participate on campus during the school day.
  • We will follow established attendance procedures to address excused and unexcused absences.
  • If you want to excuse your child from class to allow them to participate, please contact your school’s office. Absences that are not excused by a parent will be treated as unexcused.

Thank you for your support as we work together to ensure a safe learning environment for all students. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s principal.
