The new year is underway—and
bringing change
We’re kicking off fall with a new publication. Last year, we asked
how we could improve communications to staff. We designed this
newsletter in response. Our goal is to keep you informed and
engaged with news, recognitions, updates on district initiatives
and more. Questions or feedback? Please reach out to us.
They’re here! Rolling out new Chromebooks
We are providing students with new Chromebooks that are smaller,
lighter and tougher. This lets students carry case-free devices in
their backpacks. Sixth graders checked out new Chromebooks already.
Now we’re swapping them out for 7th and 8th graders. We’ll be
offering new devices like these to all secondary students in the
coming years.

Our community is
Stronger Together
This month we’re running our annual United Way
campaign. Last year, our district raised nearly $60,000 for the
ongoing work of United Way sponsored programs. Let’s do it again!

Why our levy matters
Levy dollars bridge the gap between state and federal funding and
what it costs to run a district. Our current levy will expire next
year. What’s next? Watch for more information this fall.

Do you know someone?
We’re hiring!
We are always looking for qualified substitutes, bus drivers and
various support positions. Take a look at our current job openings,
then help spread the word!

A
new partnership: KRL and CKSD
Our school board signed an agreement with Kitsap Regional Library.
Together, we’ll renovate the part of CKHS known as the 900 Building
for a public library, district offices and meeting areas.
Partnerships like these help us meet our Strategic Plan goal to
engage families and our community (Goal 4). Learn more

It’s
official! Last month we celebrated the completion
of the Klahowya Secondary School addition. This fulfills the first
major project promised to our community with the 2016 bond.

We
are amazed by National Merit Semifinalists
Kate Schweitzer of KSS and Woon Na and Frederick Humm of CKHS! They
are among 16,000 students who earned top marks on the 2017
PSAT/NMSQT.

Our principals work hard to support
students, families and staff. So please join us during October in
thanking them and celebrating National Principals Month! #ThankAPrincipal

We welcomed kindergarten students on
September 10. Did you know that a big part of their work is actually
play? Learning is no less rigorous, just less rigid. Find out what kindergarten is really like.
